What Is All-on-4?
If you currently wear dentures or are contemplating getting them, you know they have several drawbacks. Dentures must be relined and replaced periodically to ensure a proper fit. If they fit poorly, they tend to irritate your gums, making chewing painful.
The All-on-4 system uses four dental implants to anchor an upper or lower arch of artificial teeth. If you are replacing both your upper or lower teeth, you'll need a total of eight implants. Because your new implants bond to your jawbone, they provide a strong foundation for your new teeth. Unlike removable dentures, your new teeth will be permanently attached to the implants. With All-on-4 implant-supported dentures, you won't have to worry about slipping or gum pain.
How Do I Receive All-On-4 Implants?
Dental implants require a minor surgical procedure that is performed in your dentist's office. During the procedure, your dentist makes four small holes in your jawbone per arch and places a titanium implant inside each opening. The implants take the place of teeth roots and gradually fuse to your jawbone in a process that takes about four to six months with a set of temporary teeth securely attached to the implants. You'll leave the office with a set of temporary teeth and return for your permanent replacement teeth once your dentist is satisfied that your implants have fully bonded to your jawbone.
